SEAI Grant scheme for EV chargers

Step by step process

  1. Complete our online Electric Vehicle Home Charger grant application form. You will need your Meter Point Reference Number (the full 11 digit number on the top of your electricity bill) and your home address Eircode. If you are buying a new EV here in Ireland and receiving an EV grant from SEAI, you will need to provide your application ID which will be available from your car dealer.
  2. Once your application has been approved, you will receive a Letter of Offer via email as well as the Terms and Condition and a payment request form link. Separately, you will also receive an email containg the Installation Details form that needs to be completed by your electrician – please make sure to forward this email to your chosen installer. Both emails will be sent from noreply@scheme.seai.ie.
  3. From when you receive your Letter of Offer, you have 6 months to complete the installation of your charge point.
  4. The work can only be performed by a fully qualified electrician who is registered accordingly with Safe Electric Ireland.
  5. Once the installation is done your electrician should complete Installation Details form and you should complete the Payment Request Form.
  6. Your Electrician must provide you with a copy of the Certificate Number 3. Review this and ensure it is completed properly.
  • Submit your Payment Request Form found in the Letter of Offer email with the following items:
  • Fully signed and completed Payment Request Form including bank account details·
  • Copy of Certificate Number 3
  • Copy of Test Record sheet from Electrician
  • Copy of invoices
  • Vehicle Registration Certificate
  • For Company Vehicle applications a company headed letter from the employer is required dated between the Application Approval date and Grant Expiry Date. Please use the following document as a template. Alternatively we will accept a company stamped letter instead of company headed letter.
  • Photographs of the installed charge point and the EV showing vehicle registration plate.

Your electrician must send a fully completed copy of the Certificate Number 3 to Safe Electric Ireland. We will check with Safe Electric Ireland that the relevant certificate has been filled for that work and that the electrician is a fully approved and registered electrician. Once this is confirmed, we will make an electronic payment of the grant amount to the bank details provided by the you.

Please note, on average applications will processed for payment on the Home Charger Grant Scheme in approximately 6-8 weeks from the date documents are received into SEAI.

FAQ’s

What EV services are available?

With many companies switching to electric cars, it’s more important than ever to have EV chargers at home and in the workplace. RD Electric is a registered, SAFE ELECTRIC compliant company offering installation and maintenance services for EV chargers. We have solutions for any need: from a single wall-mounted standalone unit to a full access network of intelligent EV chargers for businesses.

Are there grants available for individuals?

An existing scheme by ESB Ecars ended in 2017, but the new government-funded support program began in 2018. The old scheme provided a grant up to the value of €600 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit. The new scheme provides a grant up to the same value for those who own eligible electric vehicles.

Are there grants available for businesses?

The Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) is a tax incentive that promotes investment in energy-efficient products and equipment. The ACA is a similar system to the Wear and Tear Allowance in that it allows a reduction of tax liability based on the cost of the equipment. The ACA scheme allows sole traders, farmers, and corporations to deduct the full value of the equipment from their profits in the year of purchase.
